Geagan Thanks Eagan for Election Support [Excerpt]
To the editor:
I am deeply honored that the people of Eagan have chosen me to be their mayor, and I pledge to justify their confidence. It will be rewarding to serve the community I love in this new capacity.
We have just come through a long campaign, beginning with the months leading up to the primary and then the general election. Many came forward to serve the community and I congratulate all of the candidates for the tone of the campaign.
The discussions that marked the campaigns for mayor and City Council were constructive and thoughtful, not the sort of attack techniques that were seen in some other races.
While I am pleased that the voters of Eagan believed in the plans for the future that I presented, I do not claim to have all the answers. I welcome the opinions of the other candidates and all of the people of Eagan. We will be working to develop some new ways for Eagan residents to present their thoughts for the future. Together, we will be able to accomplish a great deal.
In talking with the people throughout the city, I have heard concerns about the disappearance of green space in the community and we will look at that closely. Eagan is nearing full development, but some proposals for a greenway area may offer some opportunities. We also will look to see if we can permanently set aside some parcels of land in the city from development, ensuring that we keep some green space in our beautiful city.
There will be much to do in the years ahead, and I will be pleased to work with the other members of the City Council, Peggy Carlson who just won re-election, and Mike Maguire, who will be a new face on the council, together with our continuing council members, Cyndee Fields and Meg Tilley. I know that they all can make major contributions. ...
...
I wish to again thank the people of Eagan for their confidence in my ability to lead their great city. I am eager to begin, and I look forward to serving the people of our fine community.
