Eagan Resident Shares Patrick McCarthy's Vision
To the editor:
I do believe that developers have "long desired" the land that has been in the McCarthy family of Eagan for over a century-and-a-half, yet not for "good reason." ("Family’s Land Hung Up in Court," Nov 10.)
Both Mr. McCarthy and Tollefson each value the land but for vastly different reasons. While the potential developer in question covets the property for personal enrichment, Patrick McCarthy longs to preserve the land for the enrichment of us all.
The meadows, fields and woods of the McCarthy ancestors should remain as their surviving descendant wishes, free from overbuilt subdivisions and full of the gifts such increasingly rare open-green space offers each of us and future generations. The question remains, are we shortsighted or are we wise enough to share and keep the vision of Mr. McCarthy?
